HRE Live-on Staff Pre-approved Relocation Allowance or Signing Bonus Overview


Provide HRE hiring managers, with AVC HRE and BODR approval, the authority to offer either a relocation allowance or signing bonus for staff who are required to move because the job requires that they live on campus.  Pre-approval from DU Compensation/Talent Acquisition per the following guidelines is not required.  There are two scenarios based on the origin and title/grade of a candidate: with RD, CD and Asst Director level roles the focus of this internal policy.

HRE Relocation Allowance
 
•Candidate is >= 75 miles from campus.
•100% of the Allowance can be paid in the first available paycheck up to $1500. Amounts greater than that will need to be equally split in the 1st and 6th paychecks.
•Pre-approved allowance range up to $3000; >$3000 needs BODR and DU Compensation approval.
•Per Talent Acquisition, The “Salary Range” section of the posting will state, “Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.”
•The Salary Range section will still list the salary range per usual, with the above addition.
•Relocation Allowance is part of the DU standard hiring package, eliminating the need for an exception noted in PageUp as Talent Acquisition posts in Jobs@DU.
•Offer letters automatically link to the DU relocation policy. It is the responsibility of the HRE hiring manager to advise the candidate that departure from DU within 12 months of the start date could result in a pro-rated amount of the allowance being refunded to the HRE/university. (Hiring managers should acquaint themselves with the moving and relocation policy.)

HRE Signing Bonus
 
This could be used in lieu of the relocation allowance based on distance.
 
•Candidate is <75 miles from campus
•Signing bonus should be equally split in the 1st and 6th paychecks.
•Pre-approved allowance range $1000 - $3000; >$3000 needs BODR and DU Compensation approval.
•Per Talent Acquisition, The “Salary Range” section of the posting will state, “Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.”
•The Salary Range section will still list the salary range per usual, with the above addition.
•Signing Bonus is not part of the DU standard hiring package. Up to the agreed amounts in this policy, Talent Acquisition has agreed not to delay an offer waiting for pre-approval.
 •Signing Bonus is not grossed-up.
